Helpful Links & Relocation

Relocating to the Texas Hill Country should mean a transition to a simpler way of life.  To help with this process, we’ve compiled some links and information to help you along the way.

County Appraisal Districts (CADs) can be very helpful.  View their website, call or visit them to determine tax rates, file for a homestead exemption or search interactive maps for recorded subdivisions, properties and assessment values:

Hays County (Dripping Springs, Driftwood, Buda, San Marcos, Wimberley)
Travis County (Austin, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Spicewood)
Blanco County (Johnson City, Blanco, Spicewood)
Burnet County (Spicewood)
Comal County (Canyon Lake)

We also recommend getting familiar with the local Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in your new area.  They provide a unique educational service to all Texans through statewide network of professional educators, trained volunteers and county offices.  Their goal is to demonstrate the latest technology and best practices to improve the state’s food and fiber system.

Chambers of Commerce have valuable information about local news, events and businesses, and can serve as a portal into your new community:

Dripping Springs
Blanco
Lakeway
Wimberley
San Marcos
Johnson City
Buda
Bee Cave
Canyon Lake

Understanding the education system will likely play a large role in many relocation plans.  A wonderful resource is the website for the Texas Education Agency.  This will provide valuable information as you consider which community will provide the appropriate setting.

It’s important to understand some of the service providers that will help you enjoy your property to its full potential.  Items like private water supply, electricity and land clearing are handled by local professionals in the Hill Country.  Understanding more about these services, and their costs, will help you settle in more comfortably:

Electricity: Pedernales Electric Cooperative, Central Texas Electric Co-op
Private Water, Rainwater & Well: Dripping Springs Water Supply, Bee Cave Drilling, Central Texas Drilling, Lakota Water Company

Solstice Gardens is located west of Dripping Springs and offers a variety of services including a native and adapted plant nursery, garden design, fine art, and more

Austin’s own Natural Gardener is headquartered just west of the city and offers a renowned gardening destination.  For those interested in organic gardening and sustainable living, it is hard to beat The Natural Gardener.

Additionally, we recommend getting familiar with the Lower Colorado River Authority’s (LCRA) website.  You can check drought conditions, river and lake levels, and conservation methods.
